Ronnie Shapira-Frommer

Sheba Medical Center, Israel

Ronnie Shapira, MD. is an Oncologist at The Ella Institute for Immuno-Oncology which is a center of knowledge and excellence, implementing some of the world’s most advanced and unique treatment methodologies for melanoma and skin cancer, operating within the Sheba Medical Center. She is a Head of Onco-Gynecological cancer unit, leading the treatment of gynecological malignancies at the Oncology Institute.

Dr. Shapira is a Melanoma specialist, which is one of three main types of skin cancer; it generally develops in the skin, but can also be found at other points in the body where melanocytes are prevalent, such as in the eye and mucous tissues. Unlike the other two types of skin cancer, melanoma tumors can be surgically removed from virtually all patients.

A patient who arrives at the Ella Institute will undergo an initial assessment and will be referred for the appropriate treatment in accordance with his medical condition. It is important to emphasize that the vast majority of patients with melanoma are cured through surgery. Hence the importance of detection and of monitoring the initial phase of a suspicious mole. Only a minority of patients experience a recurrence of the disease, which requires treatment through advanced and complex technologies, mainly reinforcement of the patient’s immune system.

Dr. Shapira-Frommer received her medical degree from Tel Aviv University, with a specialty in internal medicine. In 2004, she began working at Sheba, specializing in oncology. In 2010, she was appointed as a senior physician in the field of gynecology and oncology at the Ella Institute for Immuno-Oncology. Additionally, she became Head of the Gynecologic Oncology Unit at the Cancer Center in 2015.
